Introduction

Welcome to the 3-D Watercolour Nuno Kimono Course!

Thank you so much for signing up for this course. I am honoured that you wish to learn from me. The video greeting we had filmed for this introduction wasn't suitable for publishing. (It wasn't the video that was fuzzy and unfocused, it was me!) However, maybe it is a good thing this isn't a video, because you will be seeing a lot of me throughout the course!

In this course, I will guide you, step-by-step, through the creation of a hand-painted seamless nuno felted kimono style robe, featuring 3-D surface effects made from fabric and fibres. You can easily make the kimono into a jacket by applying more wool.

One thing I highly recommend to those of you who have not previously taken one of my workshops, and who are unfamiliar with creating the 3-D effects and hand-painting dyes, is to go to the sections titled "Layout: 3-D Surface Effects & Embellishment" and "Hand-Painting" and practice those techniques first. You can start by making a sample or a small scarf. You should be satisfied with your results on smaller projects before you invest time and funds into a large garment. This garment would normally take me at least 4-5 eight hour days to complete, including making the pattern.

Most of the course consists of short video lectures ranging from 30 seconds to 14 minutes. There are also a significant number of written handouts which are downloadable so you may print them out and use them as a reference while you are working on a project.

When you view a document, there's a downward arrow next to the title of the doc. This means it is downloadable. To download it, click on the printer icon on the far right at the top of the page. The printer dialog box opens and there is an option at the bottom of the screen to "Open pdf in Preview." You can then save the pdf to your computer. Videos are not downloadable.

You are able to make comments following each lecture. I will check for comments frequently, but keep in mind, you will need to return to discussion to see my response (email notifications are not automatically sent).

Depending on your internet speed, you may have to allow a few seconds, or a few minutes to allow the videos to load.

Thank you again, for taking this course and let us begin our creative journey together!

~ Judith
